Is Sermorelin right for you?

Sermorelin to Increase Growth Hormone, IGF-1 levels

In short, Sermorelin is a specific and special chain of amino acids strategically structured together that stimulates the body’s natural endogenous production of Human Growth Hormone (HGH) from the pituitary gland. Once HGH production is elevated by using sermorelin, it is then converted within the liver into the active insulin growth like factor-1 (IGF-1). This is the “end-product” that gives us all the wonderful benefits that we have heard and come to know about with HGH.

By using Sermorelin to maximize our natural output of HGH and therefore IGF-1, it’s known to stimulate the growth of tissues such as tendons, ligaments, skin and muscle. For anybody with an aging body or low IGF-1 levels, this is a great way to “reverse” things back to when the body used to be a bit more youthful before the body started aging and slowing down, which could be due to various factors.

Who Benefits from Sermorelin? Who Is It For?

Sermorelin therapy has been specifically approved for medical use to increase hormone levels in children deficient in hormone production. Its use to increase IGF-1 levels in adults is becoming increasingly popular in age management medicine. When clinically necessary and deemed beneficial for wellness and therapeutic health reasons, Sermorelin treatments are legally prescribed for unlabeled use in adults to improve a hormone deficiency and to increase lean muscle mass, reduce body fat, increase bone density, enhance the immune system, and strengthen the heart, as well as, other organs of the body such as skin.

Sermorelin is classified as a prescription drug and compounded by U.S. pharmacies pursuant to a physician's prescription. This is also a popular choice for those banged up in accidents or, those with lingering, nagging injuries and a desire to shorten recovery and repair time, due to the anabolic and “growth” repairing properties of elevated HGH are known for. It may also help in stimulating the immune system and other rejuvinating pathways in the body.

What Are Symptoms of Low HGH Levels (In which Sermorelin helps to increase, naturally)?

Aside from a strong telling number in IGF-1 numbers on lab testing, there can be many symptoms of HGH deficiency. Although many symptoms will overlap with men and women, some are distinct between the two genders which can help diagnose HGH deficiency.

Symptoms of growth hormone deficiency in men are as follows:

  • Muscle atrophy (shrinkage)

  • Loss of strength

  • Poor quality of sleep

  • Lack of energy and enthusiasm

  • The feeling of tiredness and exhaustion

  • Lack of sexual desire

  • Decrease in bone density

  • Harder to concentrate or pay attention

Symptoms of growth deficiency in women are as follows:

  • Weaker and less dense hair

  • Increases of fat in hip and belly regions

  • Dark circles around eyes with less skin elasticity

  • Dry skin

  • Many body parts become flaccid (soft, loose hanging)

Use of Sermorelin Has Been Shown to Improve:

  • Improves quality of sleep

  • Gonadotropin secretion

  • Muscle and strength restoration (w/ some resistance training)

  • Modulation of cell proliferation and survival

  • Cardiac performances and vascular resistances

  • Immune function

  • Glucose metabolism

  • Fat Loss efforts

  • Skin, muscle, hair and connective tissues

How Is It Dosed and Used?

Sermorelin is used in somewhat of a similar fashion like growth hormone is. For most, a simple subcutaneous(SQ) shot into your belly fat that most never even feel is done with a convenient “pen” which literally is like a pen with a disposable tiny needle you place on the tip before each shot. The pen is used at night right before bed at individual’s dosage prescribed as this will support the body’s natural time of endogenous HGH production during sleep.

It is important that no food, especially carbohydrates, are consumed within 60 minutes of dosing. Dosing can often range from 20-40 units (200-400mcg) depending on one’s need and prescription from their doctor.

 Is Sermorelin Right for You?

If you suspect that Sermorelin may be beneficial for you and you’re exploring a new program with us here at Ideal Skin, then call and schedule some time with one of our expert consultants to answer additional questions you may have regarding our programs and processes.

Is Sparkling Water killing your Weight Loss goals?

Take a stroll through the bottled water section of any grocery store, and you’ll notice bottles and bottles of different types of water. Sparkling, flavored, mineral, electrolyte — you name it. And it should be no surprise that 0-calorie flavored sparkling water is an extremely popular choice, whether your goal is to lose weight or simply maintain.

“Dieters are looking for ways to cut calories to promote weight loss,” explains Amy Goodson, a registered dietitian and nutrition consultant. “However, many dieters don’t want to give up their favorite taste and flavors, so they look to these artificially sweetened beverages to ‘sweeten’ their day and feel less deprived.” Plus, some people don’t like the taste (or lack thereof) of water, Goodson adds.

But are these beverages actually good for you, especially if you’re trying to lose weight? Are they akin to diet soda, full of artificial sweeteners? Or do they just make you crave other sweet flavors, sabotaging your healthy eating plans?

Here’s what nutrition experts have to say:

NATURAL FLAVORING AND ARTIFICIAL SWEETENERS

Many of these calorie-free beverages utilize “natural flavoring” to add taste. While they’re not artificial sweeteners, it’s not immediately clear what natural flavorings are. Sure, they’re zero calories, but that doesn’t necessarily mean they’re healthy. Some companies use essential oils and fruit extracts, but with the vague label “natural flavoring,” it’s pretty hard to tell what’s actually in them and how they affect us.

Still, beverages that use this type of flavoring are better than conventional soda (or even diet soda). “Some dieters are drinking these beverages in place of soft drinks,” notes Tracy Lockwood Beckerman, registered dietitian and in-house nutrition expert at Betches Media. “By making this swap, soda drinkers are able to get the satisfaction of a refreshing, bubbly drink, without the unnecessary sugar and calories.”

Some versions of calorie-free sparkling water also use artificial sweeteners, which are somewhat controversial. “With artificially sweetened beverages, there are no calories, which can make them a good option for flavor, if you are OK with artificial sweeteners,” says Goodson. The FDA and research supports the idea that they are safe to consume, but many people (including some nutrition pros) are skeptical.

“While I think moderate consumption is OK, the natural sweeteners and no-added sugar could possibly trigger cravings,” Beckerman says. For some people, drinking something sweet, even if it’s sugar-free, can make them crave more sweet flavors ASAP. Still, it ultimately comes down to the individual and what they can handle. As of now, there’s no hard evidence that natural flavorings or artificial sweeteners sabotage your weight-loss plans.

CARBONATION AND WEIGHT GAIN

“One reason why sparkling water is so popular with dieters is because, when compared to plain water, consuming carbonated beverages on an empty stomach is significantly more filling,” Beckerman explains. “This is because the carbonation takes up more space in the stomach, and is said to increase both gastric activity as well as heart rate, which can contribute to feelings of fullness.” Though it’s unlikely to have a major impact on satiety over the course of a day, sparkling water may be enough to prevent unplanned snacking in a pinch, she says.

Those who are against flavored sparkling water often point to research, published in the journal Obesity Research and Clinical Practice, which found carbonation might cause weight gain, as a reason to avoid it at all costs. Experts, however, are unconvinced.

“In the study, those who drank carbonated water had ghrelin (hunger hormone) levels six times higher than those drinking regular water, and three times higher than those drinking non-carbonated sodas,” Beckerman notes. That doesn’t sound great for sparkling water. “However, the study didn’t account for external factors that could have influenced weight gain such as an unhealthy diet or lack of exercise,” she says. “The research did not directly tie sparkling water to weight gain.”

Goodson agrees, noting that there is no solid evidence carbonation alone (or at all) causes weight gain. “It’s important to note that lots of things can stimulate hunger and many people that sleep too little, experience stress and yo-yo diet could fall prey to increased hunger.” In other words, there are a lot of things that can cause an increased appetite, and while flavored sparkling water might be one of them, it’s probably less impactful than lifestyle practices that are shown to have a bigger impact.

THE BOTTOM LINE

In the end, it really comes down to how these beverages fit into your diet. “If a bubbly drink helps you drink more fluid and keep your calories low for weight loss, then I believe it can be a part of a healthy eating plan,” Goodson says. “We always want people to drink water, but the recommendation is actually based on fluid consumption, and these fluids can fit.”

It’s a good idea to check in with yourself about how these drinks make you feel, though. “For some people, consumption of fizzy beverages can make them bloated, distended and gassy,” Beckerman points out. “If you experience these side effects, it is important to listen to your body and cut back consumption of carbonated water.”

Recommended alternatives, she says, are unsweetened tea, black coffee or fruit-infused water. “If you want to get some added electrolytes without the bubbles, go for coconut water or watermelon water, but make sure there isn’t any added sugar in the product,” she adds.

Lose stubborn weight with BHRT

CAN I LOSE THAT STUBBORN WEIGHT WITH BHRT?

Posted at 09:00h in BHRTWeight Loss by Pro-Pell Therapy

One of the primary concerns men and women have as they age is the accumulation of body fat, especially around the midsection. Not only is this weight gain unwanted and unsightly, it is also unhealthy. The prevalence of high caloric intake and sedentary lifestyles in our Western society is partly to blame, but that stubborn weight gain is also tied to the hormonal changes that we undergo in both menopause and andropause.

Hormones are messenger molecules. They transmit a message from one part of the body to the cells of another, stimulating those cells to act in a specific way. In humans, our hormonal production begins to fall around age 30. We produce increasingly less of these messenger molecules with each passing year, so the signals they are transmitting become increasingly less effective. These hormonal messages transmit directions for critical biological processes including cell growth and replication, energy metabolism, glucose utilization, and protein synthesis. In other words, as we age, our body becomes less efficient at maintaining itself at a cellular level. This hormonal decline is related to the tangible symptoms patients feel when going through midlife changes.

Hormone replacement is typically prescribed for women to alleviate the vasomotor symptoms of menopause, however we know there are numerous health benefits of BHRT for women. Optimization of estrogen, progesterone, DHEA and testosterone levels in female patients is important in women for whom body contouring is a concern. Estradiol implants do not significantly increase body weight or total body fat in postmenopausal women, and testosterone implants do not negatively affect body weight or total body fat. Estradiol implants were also shown to reduce abdominal body fat and improve body contouring in this population (Davis 2000).

It has been shown in male patients that testosterone levels are reduced as waist circumference increases, and low levels of testosterone are correlated with obesity. Testosterone replacement in men has many beneficial effects on body composition, including significant reduction of fat mass, weight, waist circumference and BMI (Traish 2014). Testosterone also regulates the synthesis of muscle tissue, and can increase muscle mass. One of the biggest obstacles to testosterone replacement is patient compliance. One study showed that patient compliance with transdermal testosterone gels was only 34.7% of patients at 6 months, and 15.4% at 12 months (Schoenfeld 2013). One of the best ways to combat the barrier of patient compliance with transdermal formulations is to offer them the pellet dosage form, where patient compliance is markedly higher.

The addition of bio-identical hormones can replace our body’s dwindling hormone production leading us to feel (and look!) similar to how we did when we were younger.

Can BHRT lift Brain Fog?

27 FEB CAN BHRT LIFT MY BRAIN FOG?

Posted at 20:42h in BHRTHormone LevelsMenopause by Pro-Pell Therapy

Clouding of consciousness. That’s the medical term for the condition colloquially known as “brain fog”. Fitting, isn’t it? Most of us can relate to being at least a little bit foggy some days. The manifestations of this condition range from lack of focus or mental clarity to confusion, irritability and impaired judgment. The cause could be something as benign as not sleeping well the night before, or it could potentially be a hormonal imbalance. The best way to know is to consult with your medical provider about your symptoms and get up to date lab work.

Hormonal imbalances can contribute to “foggy” symptoms. Many patients who come into our pharmacy list forgetfulness, irritability, and lack of focus as reasons why they want to get their hormones in balance. At least 60% of women report memory issues as they go through menopause, and it has been shown that the decreased levels of estradiol (the primary female estrogen) in post-menopausal women are partly responsible for a decrease in memory in published scientific trials.

Optimizing estrogen, progesterone and testosterone levels can potentially help patients who are experiencing brain fog. There is also evidence that the hormones DHEA, pregnenolone and vitamin D have a role to play in central nervous system processing. But just as the brain is a complicated organ, the answer to the “brain fog” conundrum is complicated as well. Optimizing hormones is one piece, and proper over-the-counter supplementation is another. However, it is equally important to decrease stressors at home & the workplace and get routine physical activity to maintain our mental clarity.

Is it Depression or Hormonal Imbalance?

IS IT DEPRESSION OR HORMONAL IMBALANCE?

Low mood and feelings of depression can be common symptoms of both perimenopause and menopause. Depression and the onset of menopause share many of the same symptoms including fatigue, irritability, anxiety and difficulty concentrating. Due to this, many women can be misdiagnosed with depression and treated with anti-depressants when really they are suffering from a hormonal imbalance. Hormonal imbalances can be treated with Bio-identical Hormone Replacement Therapy, which is a safe and effective way to eliminate depression in women going through menopause. A recent study has found that women without depression and aged between 45 and 60 has found that a year of Hormone Replacement Therapy (HRT) can help stop symptoms of depression emerging in women who are entering menopause or are in the early stages of post-menopause. The team found that HRT was more effective than placebo and seemed to have the most effect in women in the early stages of menopause. Additionally, they found that HRT reduced the proportion of women who experienced significant depressive symptoms from about one in three to about one in six, which is very significant. In the United Kingdom, HRT is already recommended to treat symptoms of low mood during menopause, so this study adds evidence by showing HRT can help improve mild mood symptoms. Studies show that depression affects nearly 20 million adults; therefore it is extremely important to pinpoint the exact cause of an individual’s depression in order for physicians to treat the individual correctly and successfully. It should be noted that HRT is successful in treating mild mood symptoms and not major depressive episodes.

What is Menopause

Women - You are not Alone!

Menopause is not a disease, but rather the point in a woman's life at which she is no longer fertile and menstrual periods have ceased. During this time, ovulation stops and estrogen hormones drop. Menopause can be accompanied by physical symptoms in some women, like hot flashes or night sweats. Menopause is the time point at which a woman has not had a menstrual period for 12 months. Perimenopause is the time leading up to menopause, and the symptoms of the transition can take two to ten years. Menopause can be seen as a positive beginning of a new phase of life, with opportunities to take preventive action against major health risks.

Menopause Causes

Age is the most common factor that influences menopause. The ovaries gradually lose their ability to produce hormones and ovulate with advancing age. There are other causes of menopause, since some surgeries and medical treatments can induce menopause. These causes include removal of the ovaries, chemotherapy for cancer, and radiation therapy to the pelvis.  When the uterus is removed (hysterectomy) without removing the ovaries in a premenopausal woman, menstrual periods cannot occur, but the hormonal changes characteristic of menopause will not occur.

When Does Menopause Start?

The average age for natural menopause is 51, but it can occur earlier or later. Rarely, women may reach menopause as early as 40 or as late as 60 years of age. Women who smoke cigarettes tend to have earlier menopause than nonsmoking women. There is no way to predict in advance precisely when a particular woman will reach menopause. Menopause is confirmed when a woman has not had menstrual periods for 12 consecutive months.

How Long Does Menopause Last?

The beginning of perimenopause to the time of menopause typically lasts two to eight years. Some women go through the transition quicker than others.

What is Perimenopause?

The transition to menopause and the time approaching menopause are referred to as perimenopause. Perimenopause means “time around menopause”. During this time the ovaries are still working, but their function has started to decrease. It's still possible for a woman to become pregnant, even if she is showing signs of perimenopause, because she may still ovulate. Estrogen levels also rise and fall during this time.

Perimenopause Symptoms

Perimenopause symptoms vary from woman to woman. Menstruel irregularity (irregular periods) is a common symptom that women may experience during perimenopause.

List of Perimenopause Symptoms

·         Hot flashes

·         Breast tenderness

·         Worsening of premenstrual symptom

·         Lower sex drive

·         Fatigue

·         Irregular periods

·         Vaginal dryness

·         Urine leakage when coughing or sneezing

Focus on Your Food

It may seem like a paradox, but focusing on your food could be the secret weapon in your medical weight loss program.  Think about it: When was the last time you ate a meal and actually savored each bite?  If you’re used to spending most of your time inhaling your food at your desk, dashboard dining, and trying to figure out how your toddler’s leftover chicken fingers disappeared, you may be in need of a mindful eating makeover.

What is mindful eating? Culled from Buddhism—which centers around mindfulness in all aspects of living—mindful eating has become a simple yet powerful tool you can use to help you lose weight or maintain weight loss.

Read more about how Ideal Skin Weight Loss programs can help you lose weight.

 Put simply, mindful eating is:

·         Being present for each sensation of the experience of eating.

·         Awareness of the chewing, tasting, and swallowing of food, moment by moment.

There are lots of different concepts in mindful eating, but an important one is being present—rather than future—focused.  We spend so much of our time fixating on the future and letting the present slip by unnoticed. This is especially true of eating. We’ll be captivated by the image of a delectable but ‘forbidden’ food, while barely acknowledging what’s under our nose. Mindful eating strives to change that. Ready to get started? Here’s an activity to get you focusing on the present moment—and meal:

‘Sort’ your food. The next time you sit down to a meal, mentally label what you’re going to eat by imagining three buckets. Label one bucket ‘positive,’ one ‘neutral,’ and one ‘negative.’  In your mind, put each food item you’re about to eat into one of the three buckets.

Now that you’ve labeled your food, think about why you gave it the label you did. For foods you labeled positive, think what it is about the food you like so much. For those that are neutral or negative, consider why you put it in that bucket. Realize that we won’t always be able to have ‘positive’ eating experiences (just like not every moment of life is positive, either—wouldn’t that be nice!).

But by mentally sorting our food we take the first step toward awareness of our attitude about it and eating it mindfully in the present moment. Through this we can move toward choosing foods we feel positive about that also promote health and well-being—and that can help us achieve our weight -loss goals.

Top 5 Trends in Medical Aesthetica

Ideal Skin is always looking for the latest and most advanced technology in anti aging and fat reduction.  We currently offer many progressive treatments in both of these areas.

#1 - Ditch the Scale

In 2017, rather than declaring a New Year’s Resolution to lose weight, many more people will be booking treatments for new and improved nonsurgical fat reduction treatments including Cavitation, radio-frequency and laser-assisted technology, ultrasound technology and Kybella injections. While there’s no substitute for eating right and exercise, these technologies offer excellent results for stubborn fatty areas such as love handles, muffin tops, bat wings and double chins—and can even tone and tighten skin, too.

#2 – New Uses for Kybella

And speaking of Kybella, this “miracle” injectable—which was approved by the FDA in April 2015 as a non-surgical injectable for reducing moderate to severe fat on the upper neck, otherwise known as a “double chin”—is likely to soon be approved for other areas as well. Injections contain a naturally occurring molecule, which eats away at fat cells, leaving skin substantially tighter and the jaw more defined and contoured. More than 20 studies with thousands of patients have shown that almost 70 percent noted both physical and emotional improvement after treatment, and many beauty experts are calling Kybella “the next Botox”!

#3 – The Selfie to End All Selfies

Without a doubt, we’re going to see more apps and computer-based technology that will allow consumers to see how their faces will look before and after specific treatments. Medical spas and other medical aesthetics businesses can discuss results with clients in real time. This technology can be highly beneficial in educating the client on options, treatments and cost, as well as narrowing any potential expectation gaps.

#4 –PRP Gaining Popularity

Platelet-rich-plasma (PRP) gained significant notoriety when a certain-certain celeb posted pics of herself getting a facial that included dripping blood (actually, PRP) onto her face. Though it may still sound strange, it works and it’s very natural. PRP has actually been around for many years, originally used in sports medicine and also dental work. PRP is obtained by drawing a small amount of the client’s blood, then spinning it in a centrifuge to separate out platelets and plasma. PRP grows collagen and can be used to soften the appearance of sun damage, wrinkles and sagging. PRP can be used topically—with or without treatments such as microneedling, which allows further penetration of PPR—and can also be injected into the face and even feminine areas for rejuvenation purposes.

#5 – More Men, More Millennials

As more and more people are getting comfortable not only with getting medical aesthetics services such as Botox, dermal fillers and laser or IPL skin rejuvenation, but also with talking about these services with their friends and on social media, the market share for both men and millennials continues to climb. While men in their forties, fifties and beyond tend to focus on looking younger in the workplace, younger men and millennials of both genders focus on appearance enhancement and age-prevention.

10 Causes of Aging and Wrinkles

With the number of wrinkle-reducing and age-defying products on the market, it seems that everyone has a different treatment option. These treatments are effective in diminishing fine lines and wrinkles but not preventing new ones from forming. For the best prevention, Fort Worth patients should understand why wrinkles form and how they can rejuvenate their skin.

Understanding What Causes Wrinkles

Certain causes of wrinkles are unavoidable, but patients can counteract others by practicing healthy habits that are good for their body as well as their skin. Here are the top ten reasons why patients get wrinkles and what preventative measures can be taken to stop them from forming:

  • Sun: While a free and natural source of vitamin D, too much sun exposure can also cause wrinkles and sunspots to form. Fort Worth patients should avoid going out when the sun is at its strongest (10 am until 2 pm). When they do go out in the sun, they should apply sunscreen before heading out and every two hours after to help prevent wrinkles.
  • Free radicals: Naturally occurring atoms in our body, known as free radicals, cause damage to our cells. One visible form of this damage is wrinkles. A diet rich in antioxidants (vitamins A, C, and E to name a few) can combat this damage and slow the visible signs of aging.
  • Smoking: In addition to the high risk of developing cancer and gum disease, the nicotine found in cigarettes constricts blood vessels and deprives your skin of the oxygen and nutrients it needs to stay healthy. Quitting is the best option for the health of your skin and body.
  • Facial expressions: Our emotions cause the repeated motion of muscles that eventually become embedded in our skin over time. There are several treatment options for Houston patients to rejuvenate skin and reduce the wrinkles formed for a more youthful expression.
  • Age: As patients grow older, years of sun exposure, repetitive facial expressions, and loss of elasticity in the skin add up and cause wrinkles. Another factor that causes wrinkles is genetics. However, maintaining a healthy lifestyle will help prevent more wrinkles.
  • Gender: Women usually have more wrinkles than men because there are fewer hair follicles and glands on their faces.
  • Gravity: Over time gravity causes the skin on your face to pull downwards. This leads to the formation of wrinkles, lines, and sagging skin common with age.
  • Hormones: Having the right balance of testosterone and estrogen keeps skin looking young and wrinkle-free. As patients age their hormone levels decrease. Hormone therapy is a great option for
  • How you sleep: Patients who sleep on their side or stomach with their faces pressed against a pillow will get lines on their face when they wake up. Over time, these lines accumulate and eventually cause wrinkles to form. Try falling asleep on your back to avoid this problem.
  • Unhealthy diet: The occasional sweet or salty snack won’t cause patients to develop wrinkles overnight, but a diet that lacks the proper nutrition to maintain skin health will. Switching to a diet with healthy fats, plenty of fruit and vegetables, and a diet rich in vitamins A, C, and E will help prevent wrinkles.

Which Chemical Peel is Best For You

Chemical peels are wonderful alternatives to laser facials, which can be costly, and are a quick way to remove dead skin cells, fine lines, small scars, freckles, dark spots and/or skin imperfections caused by aging, hormones and the sun. They are controlled treatments to your face, neck and/or chest, and can be performed safely by a medical esthetician. However, the more intense peels will need to be performed by a physician.  Chemical peels are performed on an outpatient basis, and they are very effective in renewing the skin’s texture. Also, because peels slough off those unwanted dead skin cells, and force brand new fresh skin to the surface, it gives you the appearance of tighter, brighter skin and smaller pores.

There are 3 levels or grades of chemical peels, and it really depends on your skin color, texture, level of skin imperfections and elasticity to determine what chemical acid solution works best for you. In addition, your esthetician or doctor will determine if you need a stronger or lighter solution within each grade of the chemical peel.

Lowest Grade: Alpha Hydroxy Acid (AHA) Peel or Lactic Peel

These peels are more surface level, and they help with rough/dry skin and texture. This peel can also be mixed with skin bleaching agents to lessen dark spots or skin discoloration due to sun damage, hormones and aging. AHA peels take about 10 minutes, and you basically end up with what looks like a sunburn; the skin will be red, dry and you may or may not peel. It takes about 2 - 5 days to heal but you can go about your normal life without any real downtime.

Medium Grade: Trichloroacetic Acid (TCA) Peel

This type of peel is used to treat fine lines, surface level acne and slight skin imperfections. The TCA peel takes about 15 minutes, and for darker skin, you may need two or more treatments spaced out over several months. After having this procedure, you can expect mild swelling, redness, crusting/scabbing and peeling. The downtime can be anywhere from 5-10 days depending on how quickly your face heals.

Higher Grade: Carbolic Acid or Phenol Peel

This peel is for coarse, deep wrinkles, and deeper darks spots and skin imperfections. The phenol peels are intense and can only be used on the face as it can scar the neck and other parts of the body. This peel needs to be performed by a physician because it does require general anesthesia and a sterile technique. Post-procedure, you will have heavy swelling; the eyes may even be swollen shut and you may need bandages that can be removed within 2 days. You will probably need some kind of pain medication, and you will not be able to wear makeup for two weeks. It is imperative that you stay out of the sun for at least 3 weeks as the skin is very susceptible to sun damage.

A New Year - New You saying goodbye to your double Chin with Kybella Fat Dissolve

Diet and exercise only shrink fat cells under the chin. Because of this, the chances of the cells returning to normal size are high—practically inevitable.

Kybella works in a different fashion. The drug completely destroys stubborn fat cells. The appearance of a double chin is eliminated and results are permanent. Patients love the fact that they never have to worry about their double chin reappearing. They’re also pleased that they don’t have to partake in an ultra-disciplined exercise and diet regimen that produces minimal results.

Patients love “in and out” non-invasive Kybella treatments. The injections take a significantly less amount of time than liposuction, and often times produce better results. In addition, no anesthesia is required—which is great for patients who experience unpleasant side effects following the administration of this drug.

Following Kybella treatments, patients are highly satisfied when they experience minimal to no side effects. If side effects do occur, they’re minor—usually in the form of a 15-20-minute tingling sensation under the chin, or minor numbness, swelling, and/or bruising.

The other thing patients really love is that they don’t have to walk around with bandages on or around their chin. This is great as it allows normal everyday function to occur—patients never have to worry about appearing differently.

One of the best ways to judge the results of plastic surgery is through the use of before and after photos. Following Kybella treatment, before and after photos show a drastic improvement in not only the chin but the entire appearance of the face. The jawline, facial symmetry, and other facial features are more aesthetically pleasing.

Kybella (deoxycholic acid) is a naturally-occurring molecule in the human body. The results of two clinical studies led to the FDA’s approval of the drug in April of 2015. The FDA specifically indicated it for “the improvement in the appearance of moderate to severe convexity or fullness associated with submental fat (fat under the chin) in adults.”

The FDA label is a strong one—that ensures the drug is safe. This gives patients a high level of comfort because that they know that they will be okay after treatment. Other treatment options like diet pills are not FDA approved. If you’re considering taking a non-FDA approved drug, it’s very important that you discuss it with your trusted plastic surgeon before doing so.

Kybella is a safe and effective drug that will reduce or eliminate the appearance of your double chin. It’s quickly become one of the most popular plastic surgery treatments because people love it. When you’re ready, please don’t hesitate to contact our office. We’d love to help you with something no one else can.

How your skin changes during menopause

Don’t let menopause ruin your Holiday glow…

For all women, menopause is an incredibly complicated process. When your hormones change, your body starts changing: hot flashes, night sweats, dryness, mood swings, hair growth, hair loss, acne, insomnia, and more.  But did you know that menopause significantly effects your skin?

The reason that menopause effects the skin is because women need estrogen to stimulate skin-smoothing collagen and oils. When menopause approaches, estrogen levels decrease, resulting in dryness and sagging of the skin, acne, and fine lines and wrinkles. Plus, with testosterone no longer masked in the women's body, some women may develop unwanted hair growth, particularly facial hair.

Tips for Better Skin During and After Menopause:

  • Hydrate & Protect - Make applying moisturizer and SPF 30+ sunscreen your daily routine
  • Eat your Antioxidants - Eating foods with antioxidants can make the collagen in your skin stronger
  • Stock up on Soy - Soy is rich in isoflavones, plant-based compounds that act like estrogen in your body, This can help with hot flashes and night sweats
  • Laser Skin Rejuvenation - You are now more prone to sun damage. If you are noticing sun spots or age spots, a solution at Ideal Skin MedSpa is the non-invasive skin treatments IPL and SkinPen which can provide a clearer and more youthful complexion with no downtime
  • Laser Hair Removal - Whether it's unwanted hair on your chin, upper lip, legs, or where ever, laser hair removal at Ideal Skin can relieve the embarrassment and build back your confidence with smooth, silky skin.

Kybella Fat Dissolve Vs. Surgical Neck Surgery

Kybella vs. Surgical Neck Lift: The Double Chin Showdown

Just a few months ago, the neck lift was virtually the only option you had when it came getting rid of fat under the chin. Then, Kybella entered the ring. Kybella is the first and only injectable treatment approved by the FDA to help correct submental fat. This means you can finally get rid of your stubborn chin fat safely without going under the knife!

So now that there are options to get rid of your double chin, which one is the best? Let’s compare key features of each so that you can get a better grasp of what they entail.

Round 1: The Procedure

Kybella and neck lifts are two very different procedures. The most obvious difference between the two is that one is non-surgical and the other is surgical.

During a Kybella treatment, your practioner will inject deoxycholic acid into your chin fat. Though this might sound scary, deoxycholic acid is actually already found in your body naturally. It works to absorb fat. When injected, the acid dissolves your double chin fat over a few weeks. For the best results, Ideal suggests receiving two to three treatments with a one month gap between each. Each treatment takes about 20 minutes to complete, and involves 12 to 20 injections with very fine needles.

A neck lift is a little more involved. Not only does it improve fat under your chin, but it also corrects the muscle and skin. First, your surgeon will cut an incision, typically behind the ears, under the chin and back toward your neck hairline. Next up are the improvements! Your surgeon will redistribute your fat, remove excess fat with submental liposuction, tighten your muscle or reposition tissue under your neck, depending on what you need. Finally, he or she will carefully lay your skin back over your neck and cut away any excess skin. The entire procedure takes about two to four hours to complete.

Round 2: The Recovery

Since a neck lift is surgical, you can expect a longer recovery time than you would after Kybella. Typically, neck lifts require about two weeks of healing time. After a Kybella treatment, you may experience some swelling and tenderness under your chin for a few days. But you can go back into your normal routine right away.

Final Round: The Results

Since the Kybella substance destroys fat cells over time, it takes about four to six weeks for your double chin to begin disappearing. But once you see the results, they can last for years. There should be less fat underneath your chin and your jaw should look more contoured.

If you are wondering if the results are worth it, here is the proof: Over 20 studies showed that about 70 percent of thousands of patients saw improvements in both the amount of fat underneath their chin and their emotional state after they received Kybella. Kybella reviews support this evidence. As of right now, 95% of real Kybella patients say that the treatment was worth it on RealSelf.

Neck lifts have proven their effectiveness year after year. After a neck lift, not only is the excess fat underneath your chin gone, but your muscles and skin are tighter as well. Unlike Kybella, a neck lift treats fat, muscle and skin, making you subtly look years younger. Typically, neck lift results last between five and 10 years. Again, patients love what they see after a neck lift. 94% of real neck lift patients say that the treatment was worth it on RealSelf.

The Verdict: Kybella vs. Neck lift

If fat is your only issue when it comes to your double chin and you are not quite ready for surgery, Kybella might be the way to go. It is a fraction of the cost of a neck lift, does not require surgery and takes much less time during the procedure and recovery.

If you are looking for a more long-term solution, a neck lift is probably your best option. It will last years longer than Kybella and treats several issues. Those who have lax skin and muscle under their chin along with fat will see the best results with a neck lift.

Whether you choose Kybella or a neck lift, both of these treatments should give you a slim chin for years to come. That is, if you have a skilled practitioner.

Hydrapeel Facial - The 30 minute Secret to Flawless Skin

When it comes to facial treatments, “no pain, no gain” seems to be the rule rather than the exception. Whether it’s harsh lights, harsh chemicals or deep extractions.  Getting results (brighter, clearer, more radiant skin) always seems to require some level of discomfort.

So when a treatment comes along that’s rare enough to be equal parts gentle and effective, we take notice—and after trying it, we’re believers. That’s why Ideal Skin is now offering the Hydrapeel Facial.  Awarded this year in the New Beauty Beauty Choice Awards in the “Instant Results” category. The editors and expert panel noted that “in just a matter of minutes, this skin-perfecting treatment removes dead skin and infuses your complexion with hydrating ingredients for a healthy, plumper and beautiful look overall.”  When one of the editors took the facial for a test drive, she reported back: “Instant results—minus any redness. Skin looks super hydrated and glows. Plus it's a relaxing treatment—it’s perfect for just before an event or if you are a celeb on the red carpet.”

What sets Hydrapeel Facial apart is a unique technology called Vortex-Fusion, which replaces the harsh manual exfoliation and extractions common in other facial treatments. The treatment is used to cleanse, exfoliate, extract impurities and flood skin with treatment serums. Vortex-Fusion is similar to microdermabrasion, but instead of relying on an abrasive diamond tip to remove dead skin, it delivers various proprietary serums that help to dislodge dead cells and excess sebum while a suctioning action removes them from skin. The result? A deep cleanse and exfoliation without any pinching, pulling or pain. The treatment concludes with a liberal application of serum rich in antioxidants, peptides and hyaluronic acid, designed to maintain results and give skin that immediate healthy glow.

Hydrapeel Facial is appropriate to target a range of common skin concerns including the appearance of fine lines and wrinkles, skin texture, hyperpigmentation, sun damage, congested skin, enlarged pores and both oily and dehydrated skin. It’s well loved by beauty editors, celebrities and consumers alike.
